"Clutha's Beauty Spots."

A very interesting and descriptive article on "Clutha's Beauty Spots" appears in Saturday's Evening Star. It is from the pen of Mr W. Quin, of Tapanui, and was written, we believe, for the Tourist Department. The article deals entirely with the coast from Port Molyneux to Tuutuku, the Molyneux Bay bulking largely. Nugget Bay, the writer says, has been frequently compared to the famous Bay of Naples (without the buildings'), and some tourists declare the scenery to be grander than that of -the Mediterranean. He urges the residents of Balclutha and Owaka i<- wake up, and by advertising and otherwise to let the world know that here are attractions for sportsmen and tourists at their doors second to none in the world. The construction of a tramway from Balclutha to Port Molyneux is strongly urged. A great drawback is the absence of any local authority at Port Molyneux to look after and push the interests of the Bay. The writer falls into an excusable mistake with regard to Willsher Bay. He says the name is Wiltshire, commonly called " Willshire "—a corruption of the name of an English county. This is wrong. The name of the bay is " Willsher i Bay," so called after George Willsher, | an old whaler, the first white man to land at the bay, who married a Maori woman and lived there for some time, and who originally owned what is now the recreation ground at Kororo Creek.
