BALCLUTHA_A_V. WAIWERA. The deciding match for the supremacy of the southern division of the S.O.C.A. was played between the above clubs at Balclutha on Saturday afternoon. The weather Was such as would make any cricketer's heart rejoice, and the wicket was in Owing to a delay in the train service, the majority of the Waiwera team did not arrive until 4 p.m., but as a few of them had driven down earlier in the day it was decided to make a start, and send them in to bat. The visitors fared very badly, as Paterson (4 for for 15) and Perry (5 for 17) were simply unplayable. R. and J. Edwards opened for Waiweft, but in the second over of the match Perry found his way to R. Edwards' wicket, and with hi 3 succeeding ball completely beat L. Edwards, while Paterson in the next over clean bowled J. Edwards, the record then standing at 3 wickets for 2 runs. It was not until Blaikie (16) and Ryder (6) became associated that a stand was made at all, but Ryder was thrown out by D. Murray with a clever shot from long-field. Deaker was rather lucky in reaching 18. The only others to reach double figures were Allan (41, not out) and Bishop (13), the former compiling his in very short time by clean driving and effective placing. Stumps were drawn with 7 wickets down for 115, thus leaving Balclutha victorious by"3 wickets and 83 runs. Needless to say, the victory was received with great rejoicing by the Clutha " barrackers."
