RESIGNATION OF LORD SALISBURY.
Lord Salisbury had an audience with the King on Friday, and tendered his resignation, which the King accepted. The King communicated with Mr Balfour, 'the latter had an interview with Mr Chamberlain, and conspited other Ministers. Mr Balfour had an audience with the King on Saturday, and accepted the Premiership. He will continue in the House of Commons. The Press regret the retirement, and pay a high tribute to Lord Salisbury's statesmanship. The King was anxious to bestow conspicuous promotion or decoration on Lord Salisbury, but the latter tfegged to be allowed to decline. The King conferred on him the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, set in brilliants. Mr Balfour, remaining at the Treasury, it will not be necessary for him to seek re-election. The Duke of Devonshire will be the Government leader in the House of Lords.
