It is of course rough, hut by no means rougher than Xew Zealand. From Hast London up through the Fiti Stale there js, particularly, some splendid country. Of course we saw if at its best. Pre'oria (with which we were di-an-poiotedi. is completely surrounded by hills and is protected by nine very formidable lookin forts. Very little notice seems to he taken of the war here. As yet. wo hive not tasted the enjoyments of a soidi'-rs life on. the veldt, but. we march out 0:1 our first trek at six to-morrow morning to Pioneers Hi ver about eight miles away. We camp there until the , brigade is full s'roi-gth. There were 1000 Victorians arrived in camp to-day.
