GRONJE SURRENDERS.
6000 PRISONERS, AND MUCH SPOIL
JUBILATION IN BRITAIN.
London, February 27. After desperate fighting, General Gronje surrendered unconditionally, with his entire force, to Lord Eoberts.
In a. despatch of same date Lord Roberts states :—•' General Cronje and all his force capitulated unconditionally at daylight to-day, and General Crorije is now. a prisoner in my camp. I hope that the Government will consider the event satisfactory, occurring as it does on the anniversary of Sir George Colley's defeat at Majuba Hill."
It is supposed, that there are 6,000 prisoners taken, besides guns, munitions of war, cattle, and stores.
Her Majesty has forwarded a message of congratulation to Lord Eoberts for his services and to the men for their conduct in maintaining the best traditions of their race.
There is an outburst of patriotic enthusiasm throughout London and the provinces oVer the news for South Africa.
The eighth division, consisting of 10,-50 i men, sail for the Cape next week.
Lord lloberts received tbirty-six guns at Cape Town last week.
