CLUTHA HORTICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBIT SOCIETY.

The exhibition was continued on Friday, and visited by a considerable number of people from both town and country. The industrial portion of the show commanded most interest, and a casual inspection showed thai there were gome really line exhibits. Amongst the articles sent forward for exhibition only were some fine specimens of lustrine painting and Kensington embroidery by Miss E, Hewitson (Milton). Miss Scott (Dunedin) exhibited a fine collection of Dresden work. Mrs Campbell (Glenfalloch) had a large and varied collection of fancy work that was greatly admired. Miss Turnbull also exhibited an interesting collection of fancy work. Mrs Ferrar exhibited a handsome j silver jackall ring, a present to her from her son in South Africa. Miss Henderson exhibited some nice specimens of applique work, and Mr Gilbeit Stewart some painted photo j frames. A most interesting exhibit was a veil, sent in by Mr Milligan, which was j worked 80 years ago. The work was really unique and the exhibit came in for a lot of attention and admiration. The exhibits on the whole were very tastefully arranged round j the building, and laid out in such a manner that the public could get a good view of each. Some of the exhibits were of considerable merit. The farm produce section fell through, there being not, strange to say, a single exhibit. Some of the work in the Juvenile section was very creditable. The vocal and instrumental competitions were decided in the evening, and thes e was a good attendance of the public, who did not stint their appreciation of each effort. Mr John Crawford and Mr M. Muir acted as joint secretaries, and did their work in a painstaking and capable manner. We have to acknowledge their courtesy in furnishing us with all necessary information.
