THE END.
At a soiree address at Mosgiel the other evening, the Rev W. Scorgie perfaced his remarks by telling the following story of tne Khalifa *rho had all his heart could desire, but wanted happiness. The great man's medicil adviser prescribed for him as follows : — ' Find a happy man and then wear his shirt.' The Khalifa, thinking that an easy matter, searched his kingdotn for such a man, but his search was fruitless. In an extremely droll manner Mr Scorgie described the search through many countries until the Khalifa came to Ireland, the last place on earth he expected to find a happy man. As he was wending his way through the Emerald Isle,, he came across an Irishman sitting in front of his little cabin 'stnojdng, with his pigs and picHninniei i' playing around him. In reply to a question as to his happiness he took his pipe out of his mouth and answered, ■* Be jabers ! I'm as happy as the day is long.* The Khalifa's men immediately captured the manj and stripped him to get his shirt. Judge of his surprise to find the man had not a shirt to his back !
