BALCLUTHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the above council was held on Tuesday evening. There were present — The mayor (Mr John M'Corley) and Messrs J. Kamage, G. Thomson, D. Wood, J. Dunne, J. M'Neil, D. Stewart, P. Nelson, and D, T. Fleming. The Under-secretary for Public Works Department wrote intimating that' the Bill dealing with the gravel pit had passed the Lower House and was now in the Legislative Oouucil. — Received. Mr C. B. Duff wrote asking that his name be placed on roll for sections 1 and 2, block V.— Granted. Mr Jas. Taylor wrote asking that his name be palced on roll as owner of section 1, block VI, in lieu of B.eaton Marr. — It was stated that it was Mrs Tajlpr who possessed the <JuaUficatiou,—L.etter; received,
Annie Balloch applied . to have her name placed on roll for section 13, block lII.— As the application was informal, request was declined. The following accounts .were passed for. payment : — James Rattray, LI 2s 6d ; Paterson and Barr, L2 Is 9d ;.T. C. Bishop, L2 ; A. B. Henderson, L9 5a ; Howden and Moncrieff, L4 2s 6d ; W. Wilkinson, L6 10s ; D. Reddie, L7 16s : D. Reddie, jun., LI 4s ; Seaton. Porter, L2 2s ; Joseph Tomkins, L2 2s ; James Walls, LI 5s ;' John Allan, L9 18s 6d; J. G. Bentley, L4 9s; Gas Co., L5 8s lOd ; Eeview of Keviews, 8s 6d.Mr Stewart mentioned he : had been intructed to take legal proceedings to recover the value of the cows that had been killed on the railway line near the bridge. He simply mentioned the matter to the council as* the; borough might be prejudicially effected with respect to the grazing rights on the. reserve. — The Mayor said he also intended to bring the matter forward.— After some discussion the matter was left in Mr Stewart's hands to bring under the notice of the Government.
