MUSICAL SOCIAL AT PUERUA.

A social gathering in connection with the Puerna church was held in the halt on Tuesday last. Theve was a large attendance. Tea and refreshments werp provided by the ladies of the congregation, and were served at side tables. The benches were placed so as to allow free interchange of seats, and this arrangement being taken advantage of by many, tended to increase sociability. The musical. programm**was excellent, and included pianoforte solos and duets by Miss Fanny Allison, the Misses Haj, and the> Misses Dalgleish ; violin and piano duets by Miss Mason and Miss Jackman ; Miss Lawson and Miss M'Neil. Mr - Valentine, and a choir consisting of Mrs Valentine, Mr and Mrs BremnerJ and Mrs Bontlry, very kindly assisted ; Mrs Valentine' singing " Charity," and the choir four sacred quartettes with organ accompaniment. Mr M. Jackman sang " The last muster," " The little hero," and " Ora pro. nobis ;" Miss Jackman, accompanied by Miss Hay, sang " Tired," and " Home they brought her warrior dead." A very pleasing recital of " The slave's dream " was given by Miss Nelson.

At the close of the meeting a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the friends who had contributed so effectively to the enjoyment of all, with special reference to Mr Valentine and Mr Jackman and their respective parties.
