OWAKA.
» , fFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The Owaka football team play a friendly game with the railway team next Saturday, and as the latter contain some good players from all sources, we must look forward to a close game. The following play for Owaka : — G. Vial, A. Lees, A. Win R rield, W. Wright. E. Fraser, R. Wingfield, J. Fraser, F. Carlton, G. Johnston, It. Paterson, W. Wilson, W. M'Phee, W. Leal, J. Callaghan, R. White, E. James, A. Meder. The Debating Club held their second meeting last Monday night, Rev. W. G. M'Laren presiding. There was a good attendance, which would have been much larger but for the wet weather, and unfortunately Mr Pullar for the affirmative did not turn up. " Land Nationalisation " is a big question, and Mr F. M'Keown, who was for the negative, and Mr A. C. Campbell, who pluckily took up the affirmative at the last moment, both fought hard for their sides, It has been decided to bring up the question -again at a later date. Messrs Bryant, Ford, and others also took part in the debate. After the meeting a committee meeting was held, and several new names added to the committee— viz., G. Ford, F. Latta, A. C. Campbell, and G. Abercrombie. The next meeting comes' off a fortnight from last Monday, when Mr Clapperton reads an essay on " Music." Owaka, July 4. .
