HThe Taieri Licensing^ Committee have reduced the number of publicans' licenses in that district by two—viz., the Mosgie! and Reliance hotels. A few days ago a bag containing LSOO in gold coin was taken from the counter of the National Bank, Chriatchurch. The bag was taken in the afternoon when there i3 an unusually large throng at tho counter. The teller of the bank has confessed. ' • A deputation of women waited on the Premier of New South Wales the other day, and urged him to confer the franchise of their sex. The Premier suid he was favourably inclined to this step, and promised it should be considered ' in Cabinet.
