SUPREME COURT.

The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court, Dunedin, opened on Monday, and are expected to close this evening. Henry Ginsberg (aged 22 years), who was committed last December on a charge of perjury, but sentence of whom was allowed to stand over pending the decision of the Court of Appeal upon law points reserved at the trial was brought up for sentence. His Honor passed a sentence of two years' imprisonment with hard labour,, the sentence to commence from the first day of last Dunedin sittings, William Henry Derrick (aged 30) pleaded guilty to two charges of housebreaking and theft, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour. John Ward was charged with house-break-ing and theft at Dunedin. After evidence the jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and accused was discharged. John William Burnet was charged upon an indictment containing eight counts with, on j various occasions in December and January last, having embezzled certain sums of money amounting iu all to LlO 7s 6d, the property of his employer, John Watson, of Port Chalmers. Accused pleaded not guilty, but after evidence was convicted, and sentenced ' to two ' years' imprisonment on each indictment, the sentences to be concurrent. Peter Krasky was indicted upon a charge of having on the night of the 16th May last broken and entered into the dwelling house of George Mullis, in Beach street, Queenstown, with intent to commit rape. A second count I of the indictment charged the accused with i having committed a felonious assault upon Elizabeth Ann Mullis. Accused pleaded not guilty, and after evidence was acquitted. William Marr was indicted upon a charge of burglary and indecent assault upon two young girls at Wairuna on the 7th of April last, After evidence the jury returned a verdict of not guilty and accused was discharged. William Kennedy, Michael Kelly, and James Blue were charged with housebreaking and theft at the Universal Hotel, Dunedin, on the 7th May. Accused pleaded not guilty and after evidence was acquitted.
