The Public Trustee wrote empowering the chairman of the council to proceed all persons destroying the Wiltshire Bay reserve.— The Chairman suggested that,, with a view to preventing the reserve being destroyed, notices should be put up warning persons against damaging it in any way. The local people had some funds in hand for protecting and-improv-ing the reserve. The chairman was empowered to get notices posted as suggested. THE LATE LICENSING ELECTION. The Chairman said little had been done in regard to this matter further than that the committee had obtained the opinion of Messrs Stout, Mondy, and Sim, and the advice was to the effect that a case should be stated for a judge of Supreme Court. He (the Chairman) thought the matter might be left in the hands of the same committee to write the different local bodies and ascertain whether they would contribute towards the cost of stating a case. —A motion to this effect was passed on the motion of Messrs Dallas and Wallace. ROADS, WORKS, ETC. The engineer's report, which was adopted, enumerated the works for which tenders had been called and the progress made in contracts in hand during the month. He had inspected the Pomahaka bridge, portion of which was canted over, but it was nevertheless safe for ordinary traffic, only that horses might be apt to slip. Mr Draper had commenced the falling of timber on his road, and had agreed to fall the timber and make a track 9ft wide and 93 chains in length for the sum of L6O. On the motion of Mr Mitchell, the engineer was instructed to inspect the Pomahaka bridge when ihe river was at its lowest level, and then take such steps as he may think necessary to put the bridge in good repair. G. Ord'B tender for contract No. 567, Ratanui, was accepted up t<; the amount of L 25, the amount available. The monthly pay-sheet, amounting to LI 6O 4s 9d, was passed for payment. This was all the business before tho council, and the Chairman remarked that the meeting, which only lasted a little over half an hour, was the shortest one he could remember, and it said a good deal for the settlers, 'particularly those in the South Molyneux and Oatlins districts that they had not bothered the council with a lot of correspondence about roads at this season of the year.
