MR JOHN M'DONALD.
The late Mr John M'Donald whose death we announced last week was a very old Clutha identity. He arrived iv the colony early in 1861 by the " Robert Henderson." On his arrival he was engaged as shepherd by the late Mr Pil'ans, and from that date he made the Clutha District his home.' He was a native of Glengarry in Invernesshire, and wag a direct descendant of the M'Donalds of Clan Ranald, and was also a cousin of Major Ranald M'Donald, and Captain M'Donald. The late Mr M'Donald, as we have heard someone say, was a pure Celt, proud of his descent, and his country, a man of quiet, inoffensive disposition, and a strict Catholio as most of the M'Donalds in that part are. He had been in failing health for some timo so that his death on the 11th inst., at the comparatively early age of 66 was not unexpected. He leaves a wife and young family to mourn his loss. A sister and two brothers survive him, one of the latter being Mr M'Donald of Ahuriri.
