SALE OF GREENVALE ESTATE.

Wright, Stpphenson, and Co. report as follows : — On Tuesday, May 1, by order of the executors of the late James Logan, we offered at Dunnett's Hall, K«!so, about 13,000 acres of the farfamed Greenvale Estate, being all the unsold portion of that property, with the exception of about 900 acres round the homestead. These 13,000 acres were subdivided into 33 lots; ranging in area from 47 to 1,607 acres, and varying in quality from good agricultural and pastoral land (combined) to purely pastoral. There was an immense gathering of settlers of the right class, most of them intent on business, the hall being literally packed some time before the hour at which the sale was advertised to commence. There were 28 agricultural farms, every one of which was sold, and the demand for these was keen, prices throughout exceeding the expectation of the vendors. Yet the buyers all expressed themselves well satisfied with their purchases, and there can be no doubt that, considering the liberal terms they have received for payment, and the fact that the purchasers are all practical farmers, they v.'ill do well, even at the present low range of valups for stock and produce. The purely pastoral farraa, five in number, and distant eight or nine miles from Kelso on the Leithen Hill, regarded a few years ago as some of the finest grazing land in the district, seem&d to have attracted less attention. Only a small number of those present at the sale had inspected this land, and, although the executors had placed extremely low reserves upon it, no offers were forthcoming at the hammer, and the farms were consequently withdrawn to be dealt with privately. Prices for the portion sold ranged from 35s to 87s 6d per acre, and the total purchase money amounted to L21,640 7s. Subjoined is a complete list of the sales made, giving the areas of the farms, the prices obtained, and the names of the purchasers, together with the totals of the different purchases and the gross total of the sale : — I Sections 5, 6, and 7, block 3, 220a Or 16p, at 80s por acre. — James Cullen, purchaser : LBBO 83. i Sections 4, 8, 9, block 3, 247a 2r 29p, at BO3.— William Fretwell, Waikoikoi ; L990 14s 6d.
