Ther'e is very little shooting going on this year,. neither the birds nor the shootistci being very plentiful. It is to be hoped that the rumours regarding putting men to work at the Eailway and Eoads is correct, as they are all anxiously waiting to see the works started, now the winter has set in. There is to be a concert and dance at Eatanui on the 18th inst. and the well-known local Darky Troupe will preform. The funds are in aid of the local library. The Quadrille Assembly to be held at Paterson's Hall was not held last Saturday night owing to the bad weather, but it is to be started next Saturday. They have about 30 members so should get along all right. The threshing mills have 'come and gone, Mr Petrie's going out on Thursday and Mr Tullock's yesterday. They have both had successful runs and given every satisfaction. A kindly act was recently rendered by several of the settlers to Mr J. Dunlop who, had his crop of oats out late owing to the wet weather recently, who gave him a day's cart-ing-in and thus enabled him to save his winter food. There were seven or eight teams going.
