CLINTON TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Clinton Town Board was held on Monday. There were present — Messrs W. Coughlan, : Turnbull, Simmons, and Bedpath. Mr Turn- ! bull in the chair. 1 Mr M'Lachlan's resignation held over from last meeting came up for discussion, when Mr Coughlan moved, and Mr Eedpath seconded that a deputation of the whole board wait upon Mr M'Lachlan to ask him to reconsider his decision to resign, especially j as a new election takes place in September next. Mr Thos. Mackenzie, M.H.E,, wrote in ' reply re exchange of recreation grounds, intimating that he would do his utmost to have this brought about. — Received. I Mr M'Rorie wrote resigning his position as member of the board. — It was resolved that resignation be accepted. An application for use of the hall as meeting room for Mutual Improvement Society was received, and it was resolved that the use of hall be granted for that purpose at a I rental of 10s per month. i Jas. Motion, wrote asking the board to form 14 chains of road leading towards his place ; he estimated the cost of such work at Ll3, , and offered to do it for LlO. — Tenders to be j called for this work for next meeting, j A petition signed by 25 ratepayers protesting against the erection of two new lamps , was read, and after considerable discussion, — Mr Coughlan proposed that the erection of new lamps be held over until next meeting, and that tenders for lighting be also deferred. — Seconded by Mr Eedpath and received. The following" accounts were passed for payment : — J, Eamage L5 15s, A. M'Donald L4 6s sd, Clutha County Gazette L2 3s 6d, A. Sharp L3 18s. The clerk was instructed to inform the contractor for contract No. 53 not to proceed with work in the meantime.
