NEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AT WANGALOA.

The new church fit Wangaloa, the auspicious opening of which we recently recorded, is a neat little building, situated almost opposite the school, on a piece of land formerly belonging to Mr ETardie, and forms quite a feature of the coast landscape. The main building is 28ft long by 20ft 6in wide inside, with an entrance porch situated at the left side of the building 10ft by Bft. Immediately at the rear of the main hall is a vestry 16ft by 14ft, with fireplace and cupboards for library, etc. The ceiling of main hall is coved, finishing 15ft clear from the floor. The whole building is nmply lighted with gothic headed windows — four on one side, two on the entrance porch aide, and with a triple gothic window in front gable, the centre window running up to within a few inches of the ceiling. The pulpit platform is against, the wall at vestry end, with neat hand-rail, turned ballusters, backed with coloured baize, and movable book board. The whole building is finished in red and white pine, hand-dressed and varnished, with the cornice and architraves picked out in oil I colour. Ventilation is effected by all the ' gothic heads of the windows opening { inwards with hinges, cords, etc., while j provision is made in vestry and porch for hanging up hats and coats. The outside is covered with rusticated weatherboards and heavy bargeboards with cast iron finials, while a neat belfry adds greatly to the general pleasing effect of the whole. Both church and vestry are seated with comfortable pews — the main building for about 90 or 95 comfortably, and the vestry for 30. There is also a shelter shed erected, with eight stalls and a loose-box, for the convenience of those who ride or drive to church. The plans and specifications were prepared by Mr Win, A. M'Caw, inspector of works for Southland Education Board, and handed over as his contribution towards the chnrch. The design reflects great credit on the architect. The contract was secured by Mr A. C. Johnston, of Gore, who has done hia work in a thoroughly workmanlike manner. It should be added that Mr John Edie very kindly undertook and carried out the survey of the ground free of charge. Altogether the good people of Wangaloa have every reason to be proud of the edifice which, with their united efforts and the aid of several friends in Kaitangata, they have been enabled to erect practically f r«e of debt, and in which they
