I hereby accept Bernstone's Challenge under the following conditions : — (1) That the sum be' not less than £10. > (2) That the garment made be a first-class dress coat.. (3) That arrangements bo made whereby it could be seen that each man had made the coat himself without outside assistance. (4) That the said coat be judged by a first-class man or men from Dunedin and that the said man or men pass a full critical detail of the quality of work done in each garment. (5) that f .he money be put down at once in a •suitable person's hands after mutual acceptance. lam very busy and would not bother with the above — it being below my dignity as a good tradesman to do so — but the public will see I am obliged to protect myself from such an unbusinesslike style of bidding for trade.
