Wednesday, Ist August, has been gazetted Arbor Day. Messrs Wilson Cameron and Co.'s sale at Owaka will lie held on Friday, April 27. Messrs Neil and Co. have received a cup valued five guineas from The Sunlight Soap Co., which (lip.v have presented to the Clutha Cycling Club through the vice-president Mr M. Coghlan, to be competed for within two months. Mr Fleming held an inquest", at, Mr James Stevcn'b house, Kiverside, on Friday last on the body of a man unknown found in the river on the 6th inst. The inquest was opened on the 7th, but was adjourned with a vifiw to obtaining evidence to identify the body. The police had, however, been unable to find anyone who could do so. The only evidence adduced was that the body Imd been found in the river near Mr Steven's place on the 6th where it had caught in a wire fence. It w.is that of a man about sft 4in in height, thin reddish whiskers, dark hair, round full face, and pug nose. He was dressed in brown tweed trousers and lace up boots. There was neither coat nor waistcoat on the body when found. There were no marks of violence on the body, which had apparently been in the river for 10 days or a fortnight.' The jury returned a verdict of found Jrowned. The Soc-'ai farewell to the Rev. T. F. Dodd was held in Mackenzie's Hall, Balclutlia, on Friday last. Bishop Nevill was present and in his addre:s spoke very highly of Ithe steady progress that had been made in the work of ibe Church of Kn»land during Mr Dodd's ministry in the distiict. He concluded by commending hh family to the kind care of the parishior-ers during {their minister's absence. After several rev. gentleman and a leading layman had given short addresses, theßev. T- F. He trusted that the work would go on while lie was away, under the Rev. A. D. Mitchell, and that God would bless them all.
