SERIOUS CHARGE AGIANST A DIRECTOR.
The court upheld the order to examine the directors of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Notice of appear was given. Justice Sir Roland Williams, in delivering judgment, said he was decidely of opinion that a prima facie case of fraud had been made out against Thomas Russell, and he was surprised that the directors were unwilling to take the opportunity to clear themselves. He expressed the opinion that Mr Thomas Russell had to a large extent benefited by his non-bona fi.de dealings with the Land and Loan Companies. His Honor also said that the report of the liquidators revealed a state of things demanding rigid examination. While referring to the judge's decision die Times says that the public are astonished at the directors appealing their innocence, and adds that their public position ought- to render them impatient to meet an inquiry. • ■
