OWAKA.

[From: Our Own Correspondent.]

The football club opened the season last Saturday, about 20 players rolling up to have a practice. Owing to the grass being long the play was rather heavy going, but as Mr A Saunders has kindly consented to cut the grass with his reaper, the players will feel the benefit next Saturday. They are looking forward to the game with Caversham, and expect a thorough beating, but hope to learn a wrinkle or two. Rev. Mr Comrie, of Kelso, who is at present on a visit in place of Mr M'Laren, gave a lecture at the Presbyterian Church on Monday last on prohibition. The lecturer was very earnest in his remarks on the subject, and was listened to by a large attendance. Harvesting is still all the. go, and as we are now getting some settled weather the fields are beginning to wear a bare appearance, but it looks better to see it in a well made stack than lying on the ground. The Ratanui Dairy Factory seems to be causing a bit of trouble, the site chosen not beiug acceptable to all parties. Owaka, March 12, 1894.
