$ The adjourned rni'ering of the Balclulha Licensing Committee was held in the courthouse ou Tuesday. Thero were present— Messrs G. W. [lurching (who presided in the absence of the chairman, MrOi'ii. Thomson), Peter Mason, Sinclair Wright, ami John M'Guff >g. The business was the consideration of Mr John MD.m aids application for a, publican's license for the Ralclutha Hotel, the matter having been adjourned in order that the applicant might have an opportunity to have certain repairs effected. The Chairman ask?d whether the repairs suggested had been carried out? Constable Christie said that all the repairs had been curried out inside the house, and that those on the outside would also have been completed bub for some delay m the forwarding of thu material. He suggested that the Bench grai:t the license, conditional on the repairs being completed. After consultation the Bench adopted this course, and a 10 o'clock license was granted conditionally accordingly. The Chairman said : The committee wish me to say that the closing of the houses at 10 is intended to be compulsory ; and that it is the intention to see that Sunday drinking is put a stop to. If the constable should obtain a conviction on tut her of these points in the Magistrate's Court, the committee will ca:icel the license at its quarterly meeting. The Bench also wish to say that they considered Constable Christie has done his duty in drawing then 1 attention to the question of Sunday drinking, and I may say again that the committee intend to put a stop to it ; and should any convictions take place the committee will cancel the license.
