GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.

Mr Samuel Orr reports (on behalf of. William E. Reynolds, and Co.) for the week end» ing July 16, as follows :— The past week has been characterised by a general rain all over Canterbury and Otago, and which has been most beneficial, as the land in some places North was so dry that ploughing operations had to be suspended. This break, however, will admit of operations being resumed and sowing out in full swing. Wheat.— This important cereal stil! commands the attention of speculators, and where no alteration locally has taken place prices elsewhere have firmed considerably as advices from Home gave buyers encouragement. Cable newa during the past few days has not been obtain* able on account of the ciblo being broken, bo that we are uuablo to say how things are at tho moment, still we see nothing to keep prices from being maintained. We quote prime milling up to 3s f)£i ; ordinary, 3* 2d to 3s 4d ; inferior and fowls' feed, 2s to 2* 9J, Oats. —It is with regret we have to report no change in the market for these, as Australia still keeps low, and without any prospect of improv^ ing. On the spot t few sales have been made, but to push them means accepting less thaa idiirket values, and spoiling it for others, which is a thing that ought to be avoided as rates are ,- low enough without making them lower. Tho very primest milling are really only worth Is 4d,' and ordinary Is 3i 1 ; heavy, bright feed being Is 3d to Is 3*d : ordinary, Is 2d to Is 3d ', offcolour and long sorts, Is to Is 2^l. Barley.— No sales yet transpiring. Chaff. —Supply equal to demand, and primo oaten shesif is only worth L 2 ss ; ordinary, LI 15s to L 2. Potatoes.— Tho demand for them w somewhat better, with more inquiry and shipping orders coming moro frooly. We quote Dervrents at Up to L 3 9s 6d. Seeds. — No immediate sales are taking place, but. there are many inquiries which will some time or other result in sales tmd prices will rule high, and as the season advances a firmer tons may prevail. Cocksfoot ; This is a seed which is rapidly coming into more prominence, and aa prices have ndvanced at Homo, so have thoy here, as large quantities are being shipped hence. Quotations : Heavy bright seed, 4d to 4£d, medium, :3g.l to 41. Timothy: There is no change so far in it. Clovers : Samples and quotations on application. Messrs Donald Reid & Co. have issued the following table showing th<f total arrivals of grain and produce at the Dunedin railway station'from March Ist to July 4th, with the figures for the corresponding period of last year J—
