The Farmers' Agency Coy., Limited, report for the week ending Wednesday, July 9, as follows : — WEEKLY GBAIN SALE. We did not hold our regular weekly sale this w eek, preferring to get some of the Hues sold and tying in store delivered, but it is do easy matter to get'slupping space. . Privately we sold a few lines of extra fine qnality for shipment to London, but the demand for that direction is limited. Our grain sale will be held on \tonday at 10,30. flax.— We are advised that the London market has steadied down, and prices are now fairly established. A, good deal of rubbish has been s shipped, which has weakened the confidence of English and American buyers. Locally, too, buyers are almost frightened to purchase, unless for well known established brands ; these are in better favor, and have advanced in value. We are prepared on behalf of buyers to contract for 6 or 12 months' supply at top rates, which ought to secure for dressers and others a guaranteed remunerative price for their next spring and summer's work* During the week we sold linen as follows: — Bright well scutched, Ll9 to LlO 12s 6d ; bright medium scu'ehed, Lls to LL7 ; inferior and discoloured, LI 2 to Ll3 10s; nnsoutched, LlO to Ll2 ; soveral lines of tow, L 2 10s to L 3 10s per ton. Fat Sheep.— -3234 came forward to a somewhat irregular sale, prices in the case of really prime freezing sheep being within a shade of last week'a values, whilst ordinary butchers' sheep ruled from Is to Is 6d a*hend lower. This observation applies particularly to ewes, of which probably two-thirds of the supply consisted. The quality of the sheep this wook was for the most part good— the consignments of freezers from tho New Zealand Agricultural Cumpauy, Waimea estate, from Mr Andrew Tolfer, Waitahuna, from Messrs M'Leod Bros.', Woodlands, from Messrs J and J Allison, Tokomairiro, from Mr W.ttson Shennan," Conical Hill, and from Messrs W and N Reid, Broomfiold, boing the best; whilst Mr asrs Ellis Bios', Five Uivers, and Mr J 0, Ellis', Merrivale,. ewes • were the best in their class. Fat Lambs.— Only 88 penned of medium quality. These met a dull sale, butchers at this time of the year only caring for the voty best quality. Pigs.— 21fi penned.— Guaranteed grain-fed bacon pigs of light and medium weights were in. good demand and sold. at fully late rates. Porkers and stores, however, commanded loss attention. — Bacon pigs sold at from 28s to\4(>3 ; porkers, at from 19s to 27s ; stores, at from 12s to 18s ; suckers, 6s to 10s. We sold 80 baconero at quotations Store Cattle. — A demand exists for throeparts fat bullocks for finishing off on turnips, but other descriptions are quite unsaleable 'We have placed 60 bullocks atL5 5u ami have buyers for a largo lot. Store Sheep — There are numerous inquiries for good wethers for fattening on turnips, and for good crossbred ewes in lamb, but there are not many offering. RABBITSKIN MARKET. Messrs 4.RTHUU M'DONALD AND Co. report as follows for week ending 9th inst. :— Our cable dated London, July 4, reads : "At the rabbitskin auctions to-day the supply was small and prices remained unchanged " ; which does not l'->ok over well, for if there had been an ordinary supply prices must havo receeded. During the week wo have purchased a considerable quantity at last week's rates— Winters, lOd; colours. lOd ; autumns up to Is ; summers, 8d — free of all charges. Horsehair, Is por Ib. GRAIN AND SEED REPORT. Mr SAMUBn Orii reports (on behalf of William E. Reynolds, and Co.) for the Week ending July 9, as follows : — We last reported on the 4th on account of our usual weekly having omitted to go to press at the time appointed, and since fclion tho weather has been broken pretty well all over tho country, but wp oan look for nothing olse, while it is also being appreciated by farmers, as recently the ground has been very stiff for ploughing. Wheat.— In writing lust we mentioned tho change that had como over tho Homo market during tho few days previous, and which was unaccountable other than by change of weather, and now we have the cable advising us thafc European crops are in dangor through wet and bad weather, corroborating bur anticipations, The advance at Homo, while not being tnaintained in our local market, is elsewhere, and very laige sales have tnken place for forward delivery in London and shipments on the passage. Such a state of matters gives a healthier tono to growers than we havo enjoyed for some timo ; and though we do not soe that any gre.it spurt is going to take plaoe, it is encouraging to think that it is evrn saleable at a remunerative figure, which is certainly not the cane in Oats, and from all sources no change in them is inimineut for some considerable timo. Plainly put there are few sales taking place at tho moment, as every market is blocked, while tho pasturage iv New South Wales and Victoria in excellent ; there local 'millers aro not putting • through much, as their oatmeal orders have fallen off. Holders will therefore see how little chance there is of agents selling even at late prices. Prac'ically, prime milling oats are only saleable to-day at Is 3d; bright h"avy feed, la 3Ad to Is4d ; ordinary, la 2£d to Is 3d. Barley. —Market still at a standstill' Chaff. — Tho market is being kept fully supplied xnd prices much about the same as last week. Potatoes. — Some holders of these have during the past week been feeling si good denl uueasy over these, and more especially .through a report iv the Witness of there being en route to Sydney 30,000 tons of them. Such a report on the face of it is, to us, absolutely nonsense, as the quantify, we feel sure, should be bags, not tons. Wo must also bear in mind the fluctuating state of the market. Our opinion is that , this tuber will bring its value all through the season. Seeds. — Ryegrnss - Whilo no immediate palei are taking place, there are many inquiries, and which will some time or other eventuate in sales and prices will rule high, and as season advancos a firmer tone may just , prevail. * Cocksfoot : This is a seed which is rapidly coming into more prominence, and as pricoa have advanced at Home, so have they here, as large quantities are being shipped hence. Quotations— Heavy bright seed, id to 4 Ail ; medium) 3^l to 4d. Timothy : There is no change so far in it. Clovers : 'Samples and quotations on application.! .■ ■; . ; . Wheat. — Since writing the foregoing we have seen c cable from London saying that recent advance is ful'y maintained and further pio« poets of market hardening.
