MR JOHNSTON AND THE CONFESSION.
& TO THE EDITOR. i^Sißj-rJNb one will object to Mr Johnjiton's abandoning the Beld of controversy, l|>ut it is much to be regretted, oh his own jpiccount, that, inretiring,he should betake fhimaelf to the arts of the caluminator. |" -In his- last letter, after describiug and i enumerating with great precision seven currents of thought one of which " gives ;us a ' Life of Jesus '. that denies the possibility of miracle, and characterises the resurrection of Lazarus and of .our Lord as holy frauds," he says, " To currents like these-Mr Dairy mple has more than once indicated his readiness to commit the bark of the church. . This assertion is not: only without warrant ; it is absolutely false. Mr Johnston perhaps imagines that by fabricating and launching a calumny of this sort he is advancing his' cause. If I mistake not he has only succeeded in con.viucing every candid mind that zeal for an unrevised Confession of Faith by no means implies a fine sense of what is due to truth and honour.— l am, &c. , Alex. M. Dalrymple.
