MR. ALEXANDER ROBERTSON'S MERINO FLOCK.
We notice that at the Southland Show, held last week, Mr Alexander Robertson, Waitepeka, carried off the first prizes in all the classes of merino sheep. The honour is enhanced by the fact that there was large competition, Mr Robertson not only beating other competitors from the Clutha, but also such breeders as the Hon. M. Holmes, Rowley and Hamilton, and others. The prizes in the merino classes were awarded as follows :—
Ram, 4-tooth and over : Alexander Robertson, 1 ; A. D. Johnston (bred by exhibitor), 2 ; Rowley and Hamilton, 3. 11 entries.
Two-tooth ram : Alex. Robertson, 1, 2 and 3 ; A. D. Johnston (bred by exhibitor), commended. 10 entries.
Pen of three ewes:' Alex. Robertson, 1 ; A. D. Johnston (bred by exhibitor), 2 ;" Hon. M. Holmes, 3 ; Rowley and Hamilton, commended. 6 entries.
Pen of three 2-tooth ewes : Alexander Robertson, 1 ; A. D. Johnston (bred by exhibitor), 2 ; B. M'Kinuon, 3. 8 entries.
Best Merino ram, Association's silver medal, champion "prize : Alex. Robertson (Waitepeka).
Referring to the show of sheep, the Southland Times says : — The first lot on the programme was the merino class, and a very superior class it was. The sheep exhibited by Mr Alex. Robertson, Waitepeka, were unquestionably entitled to the high honours they received, although when Mr Robertson exhibited here two years ago his name was scarcely mentioned. This year he takes premier place in the merino classes, having secured the first' prize in each of the four classes, and the champion prize for the best ram. The animal he exhibited among the 4tooth rams, and which carried off the championship, showed splendid symmetry, with very fine and close wool.
