Renter's London, Sept. 18. The German proposal to compel Turkey to carry ont the Treaty of Berlin has been fiuallv abandoned. Sept. 19. ■ The departure of the Australian cricketers from Liverpool was Avitnessed by an enthusiastic crowd, who cheered them with i>*reat warmth ot feeling*. England and Germany have sent identical instructions to their naval commanders Avith regard to putting* a stop to Chinese acts of piracy. Sept. 21. Vice- Admiral Sir Robert Goate, X.C.8., bas been appointed Commander of the China squadron. An Austrian official despatch announces that the Province of Herzegovina has bpen completely pacified. Tlie attendance and competition at tbe avool sales are better, and renewed briskness is observ.-blfl. The withdrawals to date are 18,000 bales. The series will close in October. Berlin, Sept. 18. The German Parliament has referred the Socialist Bill to a select committee. Vienna, Sept. 18. The Austrian advance in Bosnia continues unchecked. Her troops have captured Greelntratz and Nobrioka. A regiment of Bosnian insurgents at Bihaes has surrendered unconditionally. St. Petersburg, Sept. 18. Because of recent political murders the police here has been reinforced by Cossacks and patrols throughout the capital. Constantinople, Sept. 23. Negotiations are proceeding between Russia and Turkey for a definite treaty of peace, confirming* the indemnity, and regulating commercial relations. An Afghan envoy is seeking to induce the Ottoman Government to conclude a Russian alliance. (Special to the Melbourne Argus.) London, Sept. 18. Count Carvoyli succeeds Baron von Beust as Austrian ambassador at London War between Turkey and Greece is now considered inevitable. The Queen of Greece has left. Leiveda to confer with the Czar of Russia. Sept. 19. The Queen has invested the Marquis of Lome with the Grand Cross of St. Michael and St, George. The King of Burmali is dead. Sept. 21. The Nihilists are occasioning serious uneasiness in Russia. A plot to break into rhe prisons and free the Nihilists confined in them has been discovered. Numerous arrests have been made. The Russians evacuate San Stefano to-day, and the Turkish troops reoccupy it to-morrow. Turkey is willing to cede to Greece several islands in the Archipelago, but will not agree to the cession to her of any of the mainland. (Special to tlie Press Agency.) London, Sept. 19. The Government have issued circulars making stringent provisions against the introduction of yellow fever from America into British ports. At the general election in Canada, the Opposition were pledged to a protective policy, and obtained a decisivevictory. The leading Canadian journals regard this as a serious blow to the prosperity of the Dominion. Mrs Bravo is dead. The verdict of the Coroner's jury was to the effect that death was .the result of excessive drinking. Germany has withdrawn from the proposal for a joint remonstrance against the action of Turkey in consequence of England refusing- to accpde.
