A. k H. Merger report for the week ending Sept. 25, as follows : — Retail prices only. Fresh butter in Jib nnd lib prints, best quality, Is 6d to Is 8d • second quality, ls 6d to ls 4d ; fresh butter in lumps, ls 3d ; powdered and salt butter, Is 3d. Fresh butter is becoming every day more plentiful, and prices will fall every week. Cheese, best quality, lOd ; side and rolled bacan, lOd ; Colonial hams, ls. English hams and cheese are nevei asked for now; eggs very plentiful aud retailing at Is per dozen. Maclean Brothers report, for the week ending Sept. 26. as follows •— Fat Cattle,— Of the 100 head yarded to-day, 60 were prime quality, the balance medium. Eor the former there was spirited competition at last week's rates — say 40s per 100 lb. The latter sold at from 32s 6d to 355. At the yards we, sold 74 head— viz. : On account of the New Zealand ar.d Australian Land Company, 16 bullocks at from Ll4 17s 6d to LlB 17s 6d, and 26 cows at Lll 15s to Ll4; and on account of other vendors. 32 head at prices ranging from Ll2 to Lift 10s. Privately we have sold 50 head. Fat Sheep. — A short supply came forward for to-day's market, consequently prices advanced considerably. Best quality cross-breds made from 19s 9d to 25s ; merinoes, 17s to 17s 3d or equal to about 4d per lb. Fat Lambs — 12 only penned, which sold at satisfactory prices. Store Cattle.— We note an increased demand for good stores, but there are very few offering. The Spring promises to he an unusually early one, and prices are likely to be higher. Store sheep.— No transactions to report. Wool. — Latest advices from the Home market are as follows : — " London, 21st September. The attendance and competition at the sales are better, and renewed briskness is observable. Tbe withdrawals to date are 18 000 bales. The series will close in October." On Monday next .shall offer a few odd lots. Sheepskins.— We had but a small catalogue for our sale on Monday last. Bidding was spirited, and dry skins fetched fully last week's rates, say 2s to 5s 3d, while some extra large green crossbreds fetched up to 6s 9d e;ich. Hides are in easier request, and barely maintained last week's quotations. Tallow. — A few casks only offered. We quote rough fat at 20s to 225 ; ordinary to good bright tallow, 25s to 30s. Grain. — Wheat has been without alteration, either as regards value or demand. We have inquiries to fill export orders, but no transactions to report. We quote best milling at 4s 6d to 4s 3d ; ordinary, 3s Ud to 4s 1,1 ; inferior milling and fowls' feed, 3s 9d and 3s 3d respectively. Barley, none offering. Best malting is freely worth 6s per bushel. Oats are now becoming scarce, and but few sales have lately transpired. Qjuoiations are — for good to fine feed, 3s 9d to 3s 11 d *, milling and Beed, 4s to 4s Id.
