WANGALOA.

[from otje own correspondent.] The Wangaloa School Committee purpose to have their concert and ball on the 11th October next in aid of the school funds. It is a pity that the Education Board rules forces one portion of the community to pay for education while the other portions have the benefit of a free Act. In this district for instance there has been a school subsidised for seven or eight years, and excepting part of the cost of building and the subsidy of L 75 a year before the present Act came in force, there has nothing been got from the Edti cation Office, -while in other districts fencing, additions to buildings, and other improvements have been subsidised at the rate of L 2 to LI. It is an injustice which the people in small districts like this will not bear long. There must be something done to make the education system of this country (if it is to be free) on an equal footing in all parts of the Colony, or else a return to the old system of fees, subsidising according to attendance. It is a great hardship that one man has to pay towards the educating of his children, and also to pay the same taxation as thoae who through mere chance may be in more populated parts of the country. It could be shown that those in the thinly populated districts generally have to pay more taxation than those in the more populated districts. Some of the farmers here have been busy sowing their seed, but as yot the weather does not look settled.
