New Advertisements. Q.RAND CARNIVAL, In aid of the funds of the BENEVOLENT ; INSTITUTION. ' A Committee having been appointed to consider WAYS and MEANS for the assistance and support of the Benevolent Institution, the following programme has been agreed upon, with the view of meeting all descriptions of tastes, and of giving old and young in both town and country an opportunity of contributing either directly or indirectly to the good cause. lst. — A Carnival week, consisting of musical and dramatical entertainments, | commencing on Monday, the 19th inst., to be given in the Queen's Theatre. Tickets for the whole course will be issued, and be transferable, so as to suit families. 2nd. — A grand Bazaar and Bruce Auction, to be held in Mr Inglis' new buildings, George-street, on or about 9th September proximo. In connection with the latter, it is very earnestly desired that every family should contribute something however small it may be, and to parties resident in country districts, it is especially noted that contributions ingrain, potatoes, carrots, turnips, dairy produce, stock, &c, will be gladly received, and conveyed free hy rail, addressed to the Carnival Committee. The Committee would point out to parents the beneficial tendency of encouraging their young ones to begin early the practice of labours of love and works of charity, and it can assure them that tho effoits of the tiniest of their little ones will not be despised. THE GRAND EXHIBITION, FANCY FAIR, and BRUCE AUCTION, Held to supplement the ordinary annual income of the Benevolent Institution, Will be Opened at Messes INGLIS'S NEW WAREHOUSE, George-slreefc, . DUNEDIN. ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th, At 2 o'clock p.m., And will Re-op-m Daily during the ensuing week at the same hour. THE ENTERTAINMENTS Will consist of an Exhibition of Works of Art nnd Scientific Instruments, including the Microscope, the Graphescope, etc., etc. , Models of Buildings and Machinery, Priuting, Lhhogr.iphic, and other Machinery at work, Specimens of Handicraft, the Electric Light, Maori, Fiji, and other Polynesian Curiosities, with a host of interesting objects kindly lent for the occasion ; Music (Vocal and Instrumental*, including performances by the Military, Railway, Caledonian, and other Bands ; and Dancing from 8 to 10 o'clock p.m. A FANCY FAIR of Works of Ornament and Utility contributed by the Ladies of Otago ; and GRAND BRUCE AUCTION of Grain, Flour, Dairy Produce, and all other imaginable Merchandise sent in by the Citizens and Rural Population, to aid the funds of this most deserving Charitable Institution. THE RAILWAY AUTHORITIES have liberally arranged to issue return tickets to Dunedin and back at a SINGLE FARE to holders of Carnival Tickets, whicli may be purchased at all Railway Stations in Oiago. The Committee earnestly urge the public to second its efforts by contributing any miscellaneous articles of property which they may have to spare, towards the accomplishment of this useful work. Farm Produce, Books, Pictures, Toys, Watches, Clocks, Clothing, Confectionery, Tobacco, Pipes, Matches — in fact, anything and everything— from a Diamond Ring to a Toothbrush — from a Stalled Ox to a dozen of New Laid Eggs will be thankfully received. The Railways will receive and convey all goods Free of Charge, and the Secretary, on receipt of an intimation to that effect, will send for any articles contributed, either for sale or exhibition.
