The artist, whose advice to us we publish, having consigned these pictures to us for disposal among the lovers of art in New Zealand, considered probably, that we would have little difficulty in finding ready purchasers. Such, however, was not the case, the price being much above the ordinary aspirations of picturefanciers. Rather than sacrifice really valuable ancl masterly productions to strangers, we decided to give the whole of the works away among the residents of this district who have -substantially supported us in our endeavours to establish trade on a proper basis in this locality. It is generally supposed that our store will not be able to contain the crowds which will be flocking to the commercial centre of gravity, still we will do our best to make room.
