Public Notice is hereby given that the nomination of nine Councillors for the Borough of Balclutha will take place at the Council Chambers, Athenaeum Buildings, Balclutha, on Tuesday, September 3, at noon. Notice is also hereby given that should the number of candidates exceed the number of offices to be filled, a poll will take place in Ihe Athemeum Hall on Thursday, September 12, commencing at o'clock forenoon, aud terminating at 6 o'clock evening. At the annual meeting of this Board • held hero to-day, Mr Thos. Brydone was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. In compliance with tho Public Works Act, Section 93, notice is hereby given, that the Pomahaka District Road Board having provided convenient ways to the adjacent lands, intend to close the following road : — East and woi block line running between part of sections 29 and 4.0, and 30, and 39, and 31, and 38, Pomahaka Survey District from Pomahaka ford road to proposed now road. A Committee having been appointed to ' eoiuskA- WAI'S aud MEANS for the • assistance and support of the Benevolent Institution, the following programme has been agreed upon, with the view of meeting all descriptions of tastes, and of giving old and young in. both town and country an opportunity of contributing either directly or indirectly to the good cause. lst. — A Carnival week, consisting of musical and dramatical entertainments, commencing on Monday, the 19th inst., | to be given in the Queen's Theatre. Tickets for the whole course willbe issued, and be transferable, so as to suit families. 2nd. — A grand Bazaar and Bruce Auction, to be held in Mr Inglis' new buildings, George-street, on or about 9th Sep- ■ tember proximo. In connection with the' latter, 'It is very earnestly desired that every family should contribute something however small it may be, and to parties resident in country districts, it is especially noted that contributions ingrain, potatoes, carrots, turnips, dairy produce, stock, &c, will be gladly received, ancl conveyed free by rail, addressed to the Carnival Committee. Tlie Committee would point out to parents the beneficial tendency of encouraging their young ones to begin early the practice of labours of love and works of charity, and it can assure them that the efforts" of ihe tiniest of their little ones will not be despised.
