BALMORAL ROAD BOARD.
The annual meeting of the Balmoral District Road Board was held at Mr Thos. Paterson's house, Hillend, on Wednesday, 21st August. There were present — Messrs John M. Begg, Ralph Moir, and Thomas Paterson ; Mr Moir in tho chair. Tho minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Returning Officer for Hillend reported that Mr John M. Begg had been re-elected for that subdivision. The Returning Officer for Waitahuna reported that Messrs John Brown and Buchanan had been re-elected for that subdivision. Mr. Begg moved that Mr James Smith be elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Seconded by Mr Paterson and carried. Mr Begg moved that Mr James Smith be elected a member of the Board of Conservators for the Clutha River for the ensuing year. , ' Seconded by Mr Paterson and carried. The balance-sheet for the past year was laid before the meeting. Mr Begg moved that the same be adopted. Seconded by Mr Paterson and carried. The following accounts were passed for payment A-White, Tweedie, & Co., L 258 18s ; A. Roy, L' 69 ; Clerk, salary, Ll2 12s ; Clutha Leader, LI lis 6d ; Begg Brothers, Lll lis 4.d.— L326 14s lOd. Mr John M. Begg was re-elected Treasurer for the ensuing year. Mr Paterson reported that he had seen Messrs Robert Paterson and James Bishop with reference to the road " a dotted track through their properties in blocks in. and xni.," and that these gentlemen asserted there was no road at the place referred to. Mr Begg moved that the Clerk write to the Crichton Road Board, urging them to make Messrs Paterson and Bishop remove their fences from off the road-line referred to so as to open the same for traffic. Seconded by Mr Paterson and carried. Mr Begg gave notice that at next meeting he would move that the Board levy a general rate for the year ending 31st March, 1879, in terms of the provisions of the Rating Act, 187 G. It was resolved that the members of each Subdivision prepare an estimate of works proposed for the ensuing year, the same to be laid before next meeting. The meeting then adjourned.
