COUNTY BOUNDARIES.

The following are the boundaries of the proposed Counties within the Province of Otago : —

Waimate. — This country is bounded towards the north-east by the southwestern boundary of the Geraldine County, from the south-western boundary of the Westland County aforesaid, to the ocean ; thence towards the east by the ocean, to the mouth of the Waitaki river ; thence towards the south by the centre of the Waitaki river, to a point N. 33 deg E. (true bearing), of the summit of Kurow mountain ; thence by a right line to the summit of Turnagain Hill, then by a right corner lins of the north-eastern side of run No. 227 ; thence towards the west by right lines from peak to peak along the summit of the Hawkdun mountains to a point due east of Mount St. Barhans ; thence again towards the south by a right line to the summit of Mount St. Bathans ; thence again towards the west by a right line to the junctions of East Head Creek with the Ahuriri river, and by that creek to its sources; thence by a right line due north east (true bearing), to the summit of the western watershed of Lake Ohau ; and thence from right lines from peak to peak along the summit of that watershed, and the western watershed of the river Hopkins to the south-eastern boundary of the Westland County aforesaid, and thence by that boundary to the south-western corner of the Geraldine County, the commencing point.

Waitaki. — This county is bounded towards the north by the southern boundary of the Waimate County from Kurow Mountain to the ocean, thence towards the south-east by the ocean to Vulcan or Shag Point, thence towards the south-east by lines from hill to hill along the Horse and Kakanui ranges to the south-east corner of run No. 211, and thence towards the west br the eastern boundary of Runs No. 211 and 362 to Kurow Mountain, the commencing point. Clyde. — This county is bounded towards the north by the southern boundary of the Waimate County herein defined from Mount St. Bathans and Mount Kurow; thence towards the east and north-east by the western and south-western boundaries of Waitaki County, herein before defined, to the eastern comer of run No. 250, and by the eastern boundary of that run to the junction of the Deep Dell Creek, and the boundary of the Mount Ida goldfield ; thence toward the south by the southern boundary of the Mount Ida gold-field, thence toward the south by the south-eastern boundary of the Mt. Ida gold-field to the Taieri River, and a right line thence to the summit of the Rock and Pillar Mountain, thence by a right line to the summit of Lammerlaw Mountain, and thence by a right line to the source of the Spylaw Burn, towards the south by the centre of the Spylaw Burn, to its junction with the Pomahaka River, thence towards the north by the centre of the said river, to j its junction with Copenhagen Cr6ek, and by a right line thence to Remarkable Gap in the Garvie Mountains, and thence to the north-west by right lines from peak to peak along the summit of the Garvie Mountains, and a right line to the source of Frazer River ; thence to the centre of that river, and a right line to the summit of the Cairnniuir Hill; thence by a right line to ;the junction of the Leaning Rock Creek with the Clutha River, by the centre of that creek and a right line to the summit of the Leaning Rock Hill"; thence by a right line from peak to peak along the summit of the Dunstan mountains to the south-eabt corner of run No. 237 ; and thence by the eastern boundary of that run to the summit of Mount St. Bathans, the commencing point. Otago. — This county is bounded towards the west, and north-east by the Clyde and Waitaki Counties from the

south-eastern corner of the Mount Ida

gold-fields to the ocean ; towards the south-east by the ocean to the centre of the Taieri River ; towards the southwest by the centre of the Taieri River and the western boundary of the

Outram Road District to the boundary of the hundred ; thence by the boundary of the hundred to the south-west boundary of the Taieri Goldfields, and by that boundary to the summit of Lammerlaw Mountain, and thence towards the north-west by the southeastern boundary of the Clyde County to the commencing point.

( lutha. — This county is bounded towards the north and north-east by the southern and south-western boundaries of the Clyde arid Otago counties respectively, from White Combe to the ocean ; thence towards the west by lines from hill to hill along the summit of the watershed by Black Hill and Catlin's Cone to the southern boundary of run No. 90; thence by that boundary and the centre of the Waipahi River to the southern boundary of run No. 167 a; and thence by the lastmentioned boundary and by lines from hill to hill along the summit of the western watershed of the Pomahaka River to White Combe, the commencing point.

Wakatipu. — This county is bounded towards the north and north-west by the southern and part of the southeastern boundaries of the Westland County, herein before defined, from the West Coast to the most western corner of the Waimate county ; thence towards the north-east by the south eastern boundary of the Waimate County to Mount St. Bathans ; thence towaids the south-east by the north-western boundaries of the Clyde and Southland Counties, to the centre of the Mataura river; thence towards the south-west by' the centre of the said river to its source, and a right line, thence to the summit of Eyre Peak ; thence towards the west by the western boundaries of the Wakatipu goldfields to the Round Peak ; thence towards the south by a right line to Moffit Peak ; thence by a right line to Mount Kane, and thence by a right line to Bligh Sound, and thence towards the west by that Sound and the ocean to the south-western corner of the County of Westland, the commeucing point, together with the adjacent islands. Southland. — This county is bounded towards the north-east and north-west by the south-western and south-eastern boundaries of the Wakatipu County, hereinbefore defined, from Hummock Peak to Remarkable Gap ; thence by the south-western boundary of Clyde County, hereinbefore defined, to White Combe ; thence towards the east by the western boundary of the Clutha County, hereinbefore, defined, to Chasland Mistake ; thence towards the south by the ocean to the mouth of the Waimatuku River ; thence towards the west by the centre of that river to the northern boundary of the New River Hundred ; thence by a right line to the southwestern angle of run No. 149 ; thence by the western and part of the northern boundaries of that run, and the western boundary of run No. 159, to the northwest corner thereof; thence by a right line to the Oreti River, in transit with ,the junction of the Acton and Oswald streams ; and thence by the centre of the Oreti till it intersects a right line joining Mount Cerberus and Hummock Peak ; and thence by the last-men-tioned line to Hummock Peak, the commencing point, together with the adjacent islands, Stewart Island and its adjacent Islands, and Ruapuke. i Wallace. — This county is bounded j towards the; east. by the western boundary of the Southland County hereinbefore defined, from its north-west corner to the ocean; thence again towards the south by the ocean to the mouth of the Rowallan Burn ; thence towards the west. by a right line due north, true bearings, to the southern shore of the south fiord of Lake Te Anau ; thence towards the north by a right line to the summit of Black Cone, by a right line thence to Snowdon, hy a right line thence to the summit of Mount Cerberus, and a right line thence to the north-west corner of Southland County, the commencing point, together with the adjacent islands, including Solander Island. Fiord. — This county is bounded towards the north by the southern boundary of the Wakatipu County from Bligh Sound to Hummock Peak; thence towards the south and east by f>arfc of the northern boundary of Southland County, and the northern and western boundaries of Wallace County to the mouth of the Rowallan Burn ; and thence towards the south and west by the ocean to Bligh Sound, the commencing point, together with Resolution and other adjacent islands.
