JUVENILE GOOD TEMPLARS.
TO THB BDITOB.
Sir,— ln your last issue appeared a letter signed " Paradox" reflecting upon the conduct of the children attending the Juvenile Good Templar Lodge. It appears the cause of the complaint is outside the Lodge, and therefore it iB a sufficient reply that I am not responsible for the conduct of the children, except when they are in the Lodge ; and there, I may say, I have never seen'the slightest manifestation of anything which could call forth any such remarks as those of "Paradox," their general behaviour being good. If they are guilty of any misconduct out of doors whioh is offensive to " Paradox" "on hia way home," I should think it would have been his duty to have informed the school teachers or their parents, bo that the children could have been spoken to on the subject, instead of holding them up to censure. I have only to inform " Paradox" that I am utterly ignorant of any ground for his letter. As to his offensive allusion to myself, I can afford to pass it over with contempt. My position iv the Lodge was not of my own asking. I was appointed to it by the unanimous vote of those who had ample opportunities ef judging my qualifications for the office, and their good opinion I value mere than that of some " men and women at their _f ull, maturity," at which stage no doubt "Paradox" has arrived. I gather from the tone of his letter that he is no sympathiser with the principles of Good Teraplary. Probably he would be more in hia element as an actor in one of those scenea the relation of which ban lately shocked the ears of not a few in tlie township, and which would suggest that there is much need for some of the wives looking after their husbands as well as their children after night. If I mistake not, " Paradox" might have witnessed scenes lately in the back room of an hotel here which would ruin the reputation of even a Continental brothel. It is to keep children from entering such dens of vice when they arrive at "full maturity" that juvenile lodges have been formed, and with the temptations which exist here, there is evidently cause for an effort being pm forth in that direction.—l am, &0., A. H. Kilqodr.
