A mutiny took place on board the British barque Cassewell, at Rio Janeiro. All the officers were murdered by the mutineers.
The ladies of Norfolk, Virginia, asserted the privileges of leap year in a practical way at a ball given by them to the naval officers of that port. All the usual etiquette was reversed at this entertainment. The ladies invited the gentlemen to dance, supplied them with chairs when weary, fanned them when heated, escorted them to supper, and saw them home.
