MOUNT STURART ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held on the 19th inst at the office., Glenore*.
There were .present Messrs Henry Clark, (Chairman,) Carson, Cameron, .i . Clark, Scott, Murray, Hodgson, and Evans.
The minutes of previous meeting* were rend and confirmed.
A letter was read irom the Returning 1 Officer wirh the twines of the members who had been elected at .the nomination to fiil the vacancies in the Board.
A letter was read Irutn.W. ft. Miller, stating- that part of the property that he had paid rates for did not belong" to him, ho having* sold it last year, and asking the money to be returned to him. ■■„■'"
The application was refused by the Board, as Mr Millar hod failed to object to the descrintion and valuation of his property at ttoe proper time; /y A member drew the attention' of the Board to the fact that up to the present time Mr W. H. Millar had failed to put up on the District Hoad at Woolshed. <^ ;"■<** ' Mr Murray moved, "That Mr "W'J H. Millar be requested to put up the' gates wichin one month:" ■ : '■
Seconded by Air Carson and agreed to.
A letter was read from Messrs Sievewright and Stout, Solicitors, stating that they were of opinion that Chinamen were entitled to vote at, elections of the Board if they had the necessary qualifications and paid their rates. A letter was read from the Colonial Treasurer, enclosing Bank draft in pay-' ment of the baiance of subsidy due from the General Government. Also, a letter from the Provincial. Treasurer 1 stating that the subsidy due: ba,d been 1 placed to their credit in the Bank of New Zealand. Milton. '"-' : - '

Mr Carson drew the atteritidti of the Board to the fact of an extra cuU" vert being- required on r road leading to ' Hugh Murray's.
Mr Murray moved, "That Messfti* Scott, Jivans, and J. Clark be appofetoH; a Committee to exumine the roacj'&Jf'erred to, and report at next meeting." l - Seconded by Mr Cameron and agreed
Mr Murray moved, " Tliat the jjinb of L 6 be spent in metalling a swarapijr piece of road leading; from Mr Waited Millar's towards Mount Stuart."
Seconded by Mr J. Clark and agreed to. ;
Mr Cameron proposed, and was seconded by Mr Murray, il That this members of the Lovellsbrook Sub-divi-sion wait upon Mr Allan Boyd, with a view to try and arrange for a slight deviation of road leading to Henry Harvy's." ;
Mr Scott drew the attention of the Board to the fact that on« of the members of the Board (Mr Carson's) name was not on the voters' roll, and asking the Board to express their opinion as to whether a member could hold office if his name was not on the roll.
Mr Carson stated that he had no desire to remain a member of the Board it he had forfeited his right to a' seat ill in the Board, it being purely a neglect on his part that his name was not on the roll. , ; .
Mr Murray moved, " That .a legal opinion be taken on the point referred to." • ' ■ : '•
Seconded by Mr Cameron and agreed to. - ;
Mr Carson declined to not as Treasurer for the Board till the matter 1 was settled. • '
Mr Murray was appointed Treasurer, on the motion of Mr j. Clark, seconded 1 by Mr ctoott, ' TUe meeting- then adjourned.
