Judge delivers verdict
PA Rotorua Judge And Jury showed his rivals no mercy when he scored an emphatic win in the feature event of the Rotorua Racing Club’s meeting at Arawa Park yesterday. The Cambridge-trained gelding ran down Premiere Prince to take the Mukoyama Orchids Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. Judge And Jury ran the 1900 m in 1:56.5, and had iy 2 lengths in reserve at the line. Jockey Greg Childs settled the five-year-old well back in the early running, bringing him up to challenge the leaders, Premiere Prince and Naisbie, on the turn. Naisbie held out Na Botto by iy 4 lengths to take third. The joint favourites, Purple Rose and Beagle Boy, both disappointed, settling well back and staying there. They finished tenth and twelfth respectively. The Te Rapa mare, Endearment, continued a run of consistent form by withstanding a strong challenge from Sikorgsky to take the second leg of the T.A.B. double. The pair, which disputed favouritism in the 1200 m event, had the finish of the Stewards Handicap to themselves. Turnpike Lane held on for third, three lengths away.
