Skeggs buy
PA Auckland Dunedin millionaire, Sir Clifford Skeggs, says he has bought Sea Flight Cruises and severed his business relationship with Mr Harry Julian. Sir Clifford had the firm put into receivership after differences with his partner in the venture. The company was then offered for sale by tender, and the receiver, Mr Robert Willis, has announced Sir Clifford had bought it. The company has extended the lease on the Australian-owned Sea
Flight and is to buy the vessel in April. Mr Julian, a former chairman of Auckland Harbour Board, headed the collapsed Fullers Corporation tourist venture. Before that he headed the Blue Boats ferry and workboat operation on Waitemata Harbour. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce will not proceed with a dumping and countervailing duties inquiry into importation of the Sea Flight, because the complainant company, Whangarei Engineering and Construction, Ltd, is itself in receivership.
