Anneal for victim’s family
PA Hamilton An appeal has been launched to raise funds for the family of a murdered Matamata woman, Miss Vivienne Barbour, found dead in Peru. The Matamata Rotary Club’s vice-president, Mr John Bowers, said the club had started the appeal because it understood the
Barbour family faced “enormous costs” in telephone bills, a clearance fee with Peruvian authorities for cremation and transporting the ashes back to New Zealand. “They had no information about her death and it involved Interpol. The phone bill alone is over $1000,” Mr Bowers said.
The family should not need to deal with monetary problems during their time of grief, he said, and an appeal target of $lO,OOO had been set. The Barbour family must pay about $7OOO for Peru authorities to release the body for cremation. A memorial service was being planned for the end of the month.
