Education Vacancies Education Vacancies THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO SENIOR POSITION IN OPERATIONS RESEARCH OR STATISTICS THE CONTINUED EXPANSION of the industrial consulting work of the Unit for Quality and Productivity Improvement has led to the creation of a new position in Operations Research or Statistics. The appointee will be located in the Waikato Centre for Applied Statistics and in addition to the involvement in the work of the Centre’s Unit for Quality and Productivity improvement, will participate in the teaching and research activities of the Centre within the University. The consulting and academic duties will each account for half of the appointee’s time. The Unit for Quality and Productivity improvement was established at the University in December 1988. Its aim is to assist industry with the implementation of their Total Quality Management programmes. TQM is based on the management methods of Dr W. Edwards Deming. The appointee will play a key role in the expanding of the work of the Unit and will need to be committed to the promotion of TQM to New Zealand industry. Industrial experience, as well as technical expertise in operations research or statistical methods, is essential. The Waikato Centre for Applied Statistics also contributes to the academic activities of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and the Department of Management. With this appointment the Centre will increase its involvement in the teaching and research programmes of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The appointee will make a significant contribution at the undergraduate and graduate level in operations research or statistics. Salary will be within the Senior Lecturer scale of $60,000-$64,000 per annum, it is expected that part of the salary will be generated through the appointee’s consulting work in the Unit.
