Miss Stanima impressive
Wellington correspondent Of all the holiday cup trialists at Awapuni on Saturday, none impressed more than the Woodvilletrained mare Miss Stanima, which charged home late for an impressive fourth in the $20,000 AMP Cup Trial (2200 m She and Mr Brooker will race next at the Auckland Racing Club’s Christmas meeting at Ellerslie, in the $lOO,OOO Jaguar Cup (2400 m on Boxing Day and then the $500,000 DB Auckland Cup (3200 m on New Year’s Day. On Saturday Miss Stanima had just about all the field in front of her on the turn and she finished less than four lengths from the impressive winner, Aquidity, and the second-placed Boomerdoll, which raced up with the first two or three all the way. Mr Brooker was sixth. His trainer, Peter Hurdle, believes that being some way off the pace did not help his chances, and he will also head for the Jaguar Plate and then the Auckland Cup. Larry Cassidy will take the ride. Miss Stanima was ridden by Maree Lyndon and Baker is hopeful that she will ride the Islero mare through the Cups campaign.
