Lingerie forecast: fine and cool
PURE cotton, pure silk, soft voile, sleek bodysuits, lavish lace, flowery prints — the summer lingerie story is cool, pretty and feminine.
White, ivory and the ever-popular pastel pink will probably always be number one choice for most women, but rich dark shades of midnight blue and burgundy could well replace black as the preferred evening lingerie. For a complete switch, women’s underwear styling has been borrowed from the male: Silk and cotton boxer shorts for women have become best sellers! They’re cool, comfortable and best of all, their smoother line means
goodbye to the unsightly bunch-up often visible under slim skirts.
Camisoles and briefs remain popular, although many women admit to wearing the “set” as nightwear rather than underwear. Likewise, the lavish lace teddys — again, the flared line of these sits uncomfortably under sleeker clothes, but is cool and pretty in bed. The best all-in-one seen yet is the svelte Playtex bodysuit. Those who have bought it rave about the comfort, the lightness and the smooth, unbroken line. No unslightly brief or bra bulge.
Victoriana would seem to have captured the nightgown designers.
Romance is never far away from the designers of bedtime fashions. Lawn and soft cotton may need a little more attention with the iron but on these hot nor-wester nights there is nothing better!
Even pyjamas are losing their utilitarian styling and silk pyjamas are now positively -commonplace. Manstyled they may be, but the feminine touch is much in evidence. And for those who like "to have something comfortable to slip into” the lounge pyjama is here. Bright silky tops, lots of lace, smart black pants. Seems a pity that such fashionable lingerie is covered/up.
