Palmer to host party

A further sign of improving relations between the United States and New Zealand may be heralded by a party the Prime Minister, Mr Palmer, will be host for on Sunday. The New Zealand/American Association is having its Christmas function at Vogel House, the
official residence of the Prime Minister.
An association official said Mr Palmer, because of his position, is a co-patron of the organisation, as is the American Ambassador, Mrs Della Newman. No such function had been held at Vogel House when Mr David Lange was Prime Minister. Sir Robert Muldoon was the last Prime Minister to be host for the
Christmas get-together. About 700 people are members of the New Zealand/American Association.
About two-thirds are New Zealanders with ties to the United States, while the rest are Americans living in New Zealand.
Sunday’s gathering is expected to attract about 150 guests.
