Touch pad instead of a mouse
First came the computer mouse to direct the cursor on the screen, and with buttons to issue commands. Then with Apple’s Mackintosh Portable came the trackball. This is somewhat like a mouse turned upside down, the user rolling the hand across the ball to direct the cursor.
Now, Interlink Electronics, of Carpenteria, California, has developed a touchsensitive pad that serves the same purpose. Touch the top and the cursor moves up; touch the bottom and it moves down. With an overlay, it can also be used as a touch-sensitive numeric keypad.
