Lonely Planet Publications continues to churn out updated editions of its popular range of guides for budget travellers. The latest version of “Africa on a Shoestring” was published in August this year, following an update of the South-East Asia guide in February. In their enthusiasm to reflect the growing popularity of Africa as a destination, the publishers
have produced a 1170page 700-gram tome. This makes if difficult for travellers to follow the book’s advice on baggage: “Take the minimum possible.” Weightconscious travellers might prefer to carry smaller regional guidebooks. . South-East Asia is different Travellers to this part of the world often end up visiting several of the countries covered in the book, which makes it a valuable and cost-saving 500-gram. piece of baggage.
