Soviet economic steps
The Soviet Parliament has approved an emergency package of price production controls as well as curbs on the exports of furs, electric equipment and other goods in a bid to fill the country’s emptying shop shelves. Signalling concern at a possible popular backlash against growing shortages, deputies approved by 371 votes to 35 the measures, which were proposed by Leonid Abalkin, a deputy Prime Minister in charge of the economic reform.—NZPA-Reuter
