Praise for Mrs Lange’s stand

PA Auckland Christians can be proud of Naomi Lange for acting in the true spirit of her marriage vows, says a leading weekly religious newspaper, the “Tablet.” The wife of the former Prime Minister should be admired for not accepting her marriage break-up and speaking out in an attempt to get her husband back, the Catholic weekly said. Under the heading “Bravo Naomi!” the newspaper asked Catholics to pray for the Lange family. The columnist and former editor, John Kennedy, said: “The Methodist Church can be proud of Naomi Lange for having reaffirmed her belief in the Christian sanctity of marriage and for having done it so clearly and boldly. “It is a pity more men and women do not take similar stands instead of drifting into a passive acceptance of society’s warped values in this field.” Kennedy said if Mrs lange had not spoken out the public would have been left with the fiction that the marriage broke up because the couple drifted apart. Mrs Lange’s decision not to travel to Wellington when her husband became Prime Minister was right because her first priority was the proper care of her children.
