Art auction today

Nearly 100 New Zealand artworks will come under the auctioneer’s hammer today after spending years on foreign service. A Wellington auctioneer, Mr Dunbar Sloane, is to auction part of the External Relations and Trade Ministry’s $3 million art collection, including 43 paintings and 50 prints and craft items. Most of the works are from overseas diplomatic posts and some were merely collecting dust in storerooms, Mr Sloane said. The paintings, which included work by Pauline Thompson, Alan Snook, Nigel Brown, Richard John Killeen, Quentin Macfarlane and Charo Oquet, are not the Ministry’s major pieces. — PA.
